Mahler Festival Pavilion relocated to Vondelpark

The Mahler Nights, on which the evening concerts of the Mahler Festival in The Concertgebouw can be watched daily on a big screen for free from 8 to 18 May, will be relocated from Museum Square to the Vondelpark Openluchttheater.

The most beautiful music cinema in Amsterdam

The Vondelpark Open Air Theatre hosts concerts every summer, but never before was it the stage for live streams of concerts from The Concertgebouw. For the occasion, the Vondelpark Open Air Theatre will be transformed into the most beautiful music cinema in Amsterdam, with images and sound of the highest quality. There will be room for 1,500 spectators each evening.

Mahler and the Vondelpark

There is a beautiful link between Gustav Mahler and the Vondelpark. During Mahler's visits to Amsterdam, he always stayed with conductor Willem Mengelberg in his house on the Van Eeghenstraat - overlooking the Vondelpark. This completes the circle.

Gift to the city

Simon Reinink, general director of The Concertgebouw: ‘The Mahler Nights are our gift to the city of Amsterdam. The possible Ajax championship can also become a wonderful gift. This way, both festivities have all the space they need. We are very happy with this beautiful location for the Mahler Nights in the Vondelpark, a place in the middle of greenery, very fitting for Mahler's music.’ The new location for the Mahler Pavilion was found in close consultation with the Amsterdam city council.
